It was my first time! I was really impressed how well it holds its own, even today. Its better than I expect anything else of a similar style if it were made now (*cough* Space Jam 2 *cough*).
Hey! I felt the same about “White Noise.” So maybe I’m actually more British than I realized. Lol. For sure, so much humor feels contrived. Especially much of SNL. That’s why we enjoy when someone breaks character to laugh--that feels so natural. But i also felt “Banshees” was contrived, too. I think the music video at the end of “White Noise” encapsulates the whole piece. I kept thinking I was supposed to be enjoying it, but it was robotic and lifeless, sterile.
Thank Mark, I'm so glad you agree (though surprised!) - I nearly called for the opinions of SP's US readers, you must've read my mind!
I've only seen a few SNL sketches, but I just don't "get" them and I think there's a reason why it's not as popular over here, when a lot of American shows are. Really agree with the weird dancing at the end, I turned it off before it finished - though I did quite like the song! As you said, it's sterile and a little bit lifeless. The link with Mark Kermode's (video) review is right on the money IMO.
I rewatched 'Who Framed Roger Rabbit' not too long ago and it's amazing how it continues to be a great movie in general!

A friend who took you hey. Must be a nice friend. I wish I had friends like that ;)
I'm glad you spotted the not-so-subtle reference.
