🍿34: The Worst Person In The World
This week, the most adorable trailer of 2022 and a Wordle-esque game for cinephiles!
“If Mr. McMurphy doesn't want to take his medication orally, I'm sure we can arrange that he can have it some other way.”
~ One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest, 1975
Ahh, juicy fruit…
How funny that we’d revisit One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest so soon after featuring a reader-submitted fact about Jack Nicholson’s BAFTA acceptance speech in 🍿32: The Batman.
It wasn’t intentional but I don’t think anyone is more deserving of the title ‘worst person in the world’ than Nurse Ratched - do you? I’d love to know about the ‘villains’ that really get under your skin in the comments.
On another note, we really do have some juicy fruit for you this week…
First off, Joseph Wade, Founder & Editor of The Film Magazine will be taking the Salty helm in a couple of weeks while I go abroad for the first time in three years. Joe will be reviewing The Northman and it’s my hope that in the coming months we’ll be able to pay more regular guest editors to write extra issues of SP, outside of the usual bi-weekly schedule.
If that’s something you like the sound of, then please consider supporting Salty Popcorn with a premium subscription, or share it with your friends and family. The more readers and premium subscribers we get, the more time and money we can spend on giving you more content.
Finally, there’s a new Wordle in town, called Framed.wtf. Brought to my attention by reader Tommy P, Framed gives you five chances to guess a film based on stills and it’s quickly become a part of my morning routine.

Fact of the week
According to IMDB, the total length of scenes set in 1912 (so not including those in ‘present-day’) in Titanic is equal to two hours and forty minutes, which is the same amount of time it took the actual Titanic to sink.
Similarly, the collision with the iceberg reportedly lasted 37 seconds, which is how long the collision scene lasts in the film.

This modern dramedy is about the quest for love and meaning in contemporary Oslo. It chronicles four years in the life of Julie (Renate Reinsve), a young woman who navigates the troubled waters of her love life and struggles to find her career path, leading her to take a realistic look at who she really is.
The review (NO spoilers):
Nominated for no less than two Academy Awards, Joachim Trier’s The Worst Person In The World ranks among the best romantic films of recent years. Described by Trier as “a coming-of-age film for grownups who feel like they still haven’t grown up”, this film explores the ups and downs of being in your late 20s in a way that most millenials (if not most people) can relate.
The star, of course, is Renate Reinsve, whose compelling performance as Julie won Best Actress at Cannes. Reinsve explores a full spectrum of emotion and it’s hard to imagine this film being as worthy of praise with anyone else in the leading role.
There are no statements or certainties to be found in this film, all we have is a four year stint to watch our protagonist grow and make mistakes and being able to subtly transform as Julie does, is what makes Reinsve so perfect. As Mark Kermode described Reinsve’s portrayal of Julie, “she has the quality of being that rarest of screen beings - a work in progress.”
The Worst Person In The World will make you laugh, cry and cringe and if you’re anything like me, I have a feeling that it will stay with you for a long time to come.
