🍿88: Wicked Little Letters
This week, an unbelievable Star Wars fact, plus the latest & greatest trailers!
“Freedom, baby… is never having to say you're sorry.”

Sorry not sorry…
This week, I’m in sometimes-sunny Sicily renovating our house in the mountains (or rather, overseeing the builders). So, while a review of Wicked Little Letters, starring Olivia Coleman and Jessie Buckley was planned, I’ve not managed to get to the cinema to see it. Neither has our resident sweet-popcorn apologist, Mia.
We do, however, have an almost unbelievable Star Wars fact to make up for it.
In other news, I finally got Mia to watch Martin Scorsese’s underrated masterpiece The Departed (after four years of nagging!) and we’re ploughing through the original X Files series… which scratches my itch for 90s TV nostalgia.
While there’s no review this week, we’ve still got the usual mix of trailers and cinema headlines — enjoy!
Now for the headlines:
A new horror film that will be loosely based on Glasgow’s “immersive” Willy Wonka Experience (that went viral last week) is being rushed into production. Read more.
Dune: Part Two tops the box office, making it the highest-grossing film of the year so far. Read more.
British horror film Saint Maud, starring Morfydd Clark is set to get a stage adaptation. Read more.
And finally, Colin Firth’s wet shirt from Pride & Prejudice sells at auction for £20,000. Read more.
Upcoming Releases
Sing Sing
UK: TBC // USA: July*
Based on a true story — and starring Colman Domingo alongside convicted felons — Sing Sing tells the story of a group of prisoners inside one of the world's most infamous maximum security prisons as they attempt to stage their own original production, “Breakin’ The Mummy’s Code”.
*The exact date is to be confirmed.
Late Night With the Devil
UK: 22 March // USA: 22 March
David Dastmalchian stars as TV host Jack Delroy who meddles with forces beyond his control in a bid to score higher ratings. This trailer gave me shivers.
Fact of the week
In 2003, Chilean TV network Channel 13 broadcast several Star Wars films, but rather than interrupt any of them with traditional ad breaks, they ‘creatively’ spliced ads into the films.
Here’s a montage of just five of the adverts that were edited into the original trilogy:
Unsurprisingly, George Lucas wasn’t impressed and he won a lawsuit against the network. This has however created a newfound interest in fans looking to watch the films with the embedded beer adverts.
And while Lucus won the lawsuit, that didn’t stop Channel 13 and Cerveza Cristal from teaming up again to create similar ads in other films, including American Beauty, Notting Hill and Gladiator.
