🍿#17: Stillwater
This week we're remembering Robin Williams and bringing you trailers for the best upcoming thrillers to look forward to after the summer blockbusters.

The sickening! It’s happening!
It’s going to be a short Salty Popcorn this week… My girlfriend (and dedicated subeditor) Mia, has caught COVID. This means we’re isolating and couldn’t go to the cinema to watch this week’s film, Stillwater.
I’m sad to say that you’ll have to go without the feature review for the time being, but you’ll find all the other usual content below. All is not lost, however, because as soon as we’re allowed out of the house, I’ll head to the cinema (with a big bag of salty popcorn) and write up the review.
Also, in case you’re wondering, Mia is doing okay. She’s not 100% but thankfully her symptoms aren’t as serious as they could be - and she has me as a nurse.
Now then, before we get into this week’s movie headlines, I’d like to commemorate one of my favourite actors of all time, Robin Williams.
Yesterday marked the 7th anniversary of his death - can you believe it’s been that long? For me, it was the first time in my life (probably the only time) that I felt affected by the loss of a celebrity. Considering the magic he brought to many of the films he worked on, I’m sure I’m not the only one to still miss him.
There’s a fantastic documentary on Amazon Prime in the UK, or HBO Max in the US, called Robin Williams: Come Inside My Mind that intimately explores much of Williams’ life and is told mostly through his own voice using “never-seen-before” archival footage. If you love Williams then I’m sure you’ll love it.
Now for the headlines:
Director Gurinder Chadha (Blinded by the Light) has teamed up with Aardman Animations (Wallace & Gromit) to produce a yet-to-be-named film inspired by Bollywood. The film will follow Bodhi, a young Indian elephant from the jungles of Kerala with a dream to be a Bollywood dancer. Read more.
Taika Waititi is said he’s still committed to making a film sequel to What We Do in the Shadows… 🧛🏼♂️ Read more.
Margot Robbie is set to star in the next Wes Anderson film alongside Tom Hanks and Bill Murray, which starts filming later this month. Read more.
Meet Nestflix, the Netflix parody site that popped up out of nowhere. It includes loads of fake parody titles, such as Good Will Hunting 2 Hunting Season and Pineapple Express 2 Blood Red. There are also lots of fake movies that are real in the worlds of various films and TV shows, such as The 14 Fists of McClusky (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood) and Two Brothers (Rick & Morty). It’s a lot of fun, check it out.
And you’re now up to date, scroll down for this week’s trailers.
What have you been watching recently? Let me know in the comments below!
Upcoming Releases
The House of Gucci
UK: 26 November // USA: 24 November
Inspired by the true story of the family empire behind the Italian fashion brand, House of Gucci spans three decades of love, betrayal, decadence, revenge and murder.
With an all-star cast including Lady Gaga, Adam Driver, Jared Leto, Jeremy Irons and Al Pacino, I don’t think you’ll have to be a fashion aficionado to enjoy this drama.
Wildland
UK: 13 August // USA: 20 August
After a tragic car accident that kills her mother, 17-year-old Ida (Sandra Guldberg Kampp) moves in with her estranged aunt and cousins. While the home is filled with love and tenderness inside, the family leads a violent life of crime outside.
If you’re in the US, you can watch this already on Spectrum on Demand.
The Night House
UK: 20 August // USA: 20 August
Grieving widow Beth (Rebecca Hall) finds herself alone in the lakeside house her husband built for her. As she struggles to keep herself together, she begins to uncover her recently deceased husband's disturbing secrets…
While this isn’t a new trailer, I’ve seen it a lot recently and it looks like a pretty decent horror. This one was also submitted by top supporter and fan, Mia.
Fact of the week
Here’s a fact I tell people a lot…
Robin Williams got his big break when he was cast to play an alien in the 70’s sitcom Happy Days. While I’m not sure why an alien was written into the show, the episode was such a hit that the producers created a spinoff series called Mork & Mindy, with Williams reprising his role as Mork.
Skip ahead to 4:09 to see Williams’ first-ever onscreen performance.
Part 2 of this week’s Salty Popcorn, will be sent out sometime next week - hopefully!
Do you know someone who’d like a taste of Salty Popcorn? Feel free to send this issue on.
Hopefully i can link my Netflix account with Nestflix :) Wishing for a speedy recovery Mia, sorry your stuck with Nurse Thomas Johnson
